A visit to the Bread and Puppet Museum (35 years worth of B & P Founder Peter Schumman’s magical creations) is a highlight of a VSC Residency, and the one activity that is worth an afternoon away from one’s studio. Last Saturday was the opening of the 2013 Bread and Puppet Theater season; premiering a new work Piero della Francesca and the True Cross which was up to Peter Schumann’s usual high level of total creativity.
In VSC’s ongoing effort to increase campus-wide accessibility, construction finished in May of a 3-story lift in the Red Mill. The new lift now makes the second floor offices and the lower level library accessible to all residents.
Roland Clark (18), son of VSC’s new President Gary Clark, has grown up around the Studio Center. For his senior high school project he gathered together northern Vermont musicians with whom he has studied and performed (bluegrass, irish fiddle tunes, and classical music) for the past 10 years, for a wonderful concert topped off by Roland’s duets with internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Bill Frisell.
